Appointment-only studio · Four chairs
Hair cut to the way it
actually grows.
Dawn Thread is a small studio for precision cutting, lived-in colour and honest condition repair. Every booking starts with a dry consultation, so the plan fits your hair, your mornings and how long you want between visits.
01 — The studio
Small on purpose, so the timing is real
We hold one client per stylist at a time. That means the hour in your diary is the hour you get, and a colour correction never quietly turns into a four-hour afternoon you did not plan for.
What we are good at
Dry cutting for curls, coils and waves. Soft grown-out colour — root shadows, face framing, gloss refreshes — built to look deliberate at week ten rather than week two. Repair work for hair that has been over-processed, plus the unglamorous business of getting a fringe to sit correctly.
We do not do bridal parties, extensions or chemical straightening. If that is what you need, we will say so at the consultation rather than take the booking.
Bring reference pictures if you have them. Bring your honest morning routine too — a cut that needs twenty minutes of styling is the wrong cut if you have seven.
How an appointment runs
-
Consultation, dry
Fifteen minutes before anything is wet. We look at growth pattern, density, previous colour and how the ends are holding.
-
The plan and the number
You hear the approach and the price before we start. If the hair needs two visits to get there safely, we say that now.
-
The work
Cut dry or wet depending on texture. Colour is mixed at the bar for your base, never pulled from a pre-made batch.
-
Finish and the handover
We style it once, then talk you through repeating it at home — product amounts, drying direction, and when to come back.
02 — Services & timings
Three lanes, with the time each one takes
Prices start from the figures below and are confirmed at your consultation before work begins. Length, density and previous colour are what move them — not the day of the week.
Cut & finish
Consultation and a wash included in every cut
Dry cut, curly & textured
Shaped curl by curl on dry hair, then washed and diffused so you see the finished shape before you leave.

from £74 per visit
Precision cut
Straight and wavy hair. Blunt lines, soft internal layers, or a fringe rebuilt around a cowlick.
60 min
from £58 per visit
Short-hair maintenance
Crops, pixies and tapered napes kept sharp between full cuts. Clipper and scissor work combined.
45 min
from £42 per visit
Blow-dry & set
Smooth, soft-bend or full volume. Booked on its own or added to the end of a colour appointment.
40 min
from £36 per visit
Colour
First-time colour needs a patch test 48 hours ahead
Root shadow & gloss
Softens a hard regrowth line and puts shine back into mid-lengths. The quickest way to buy six more weeks.
75 min
from £68 per visit
Face-framing lights
Eight to twelve foils around the hairline and parting. Brightness where it shows, without a full head.
2 hr
from £96 per visit
Full highlights or balayage
Hand-painted or foiled through the whole head, toned at the basin and cut afterwards in the same appointment.
3–4 hr
from £168 per visit
Colour correction, first session
Box colour, banding or an uneven lift. Quoted after a strand test; most corrections take two sittings.
4 hr+
quoted after test
Care & repair
Added to an existing booking or taken on its own
Bond repair course
Three treatments across six weeks for hair that stretches and snaps when wet. Booked as a set.
30 min each
from £110 three visits
Scalp reset
Clarifying cleanse and a massage for build-up, flaking or a scalp that reacts to dry-shampoo weeks.
30 min
from £34 per visit
Deep conditioning add-on
Heated mask at the basin while your colour processes. No extra chair time added to the booking.
15 min
from £18 add-on
Longer or denser hair takes more product and more time; where that applies we tell you the adjusted figure at the consultation, never at the till. Students and over-65s are held at the lane's starting price on Tuesdays and Wednesdays.
03 — At the chairs
Ask for the stylist who does your kind of hair
You can name a stylist on your request, or leave it open and we will match you to whoever suits the work. Availability below is the regular pattern, not a promise for a specific week.

04 — In the room
What the work looks like day to day
Ordinary appointments, photographed on the floor rather than under studio lighting — colour being mixed, conditioning at the basin, and the room itself on a quiet afternoon.
05 — Before your visit
Five things that make the appointment go better
None of this is compulsory. It simply gives the stylist more to work with, and keeps the booking inside the time we set aside for it.
-
Come with your hair as it usually is
Two-day-old hair, styled the way you actually style it. Freshly washed and tied back hides the growth pattern we need to see.
-
Book the patch test if colour is new to you
Forty-eight hours ahead, two minutes behind the ear. Ask for it on your request form and we will fit it around your week.
-
Tell us about anything you put on it yourself
Box dye, henna, toning shampoo or a home bleach kit. It changes how colour lifts, and we would rather know before mixing than after.
-
Allow for the full lane time
A full highlight is a half-day. If you have somewhere to be, say so when you request and we will put you in a morning slot.
-
Bring pictures, including ones you dislike
Knowing what you do not want is often more useful than a saved photo of someone with a different hair type.
06 — Questions
The six we are asked most
If yours is not here, put it in the notes field on your request and we will answer before confirming anything.
Do I really need a patch test, and how long does it take?
I have been using box colour for years. Can you lighten it?
Why is curly hair cut dry?
The price says "from". What changes it?
What happens if I am running late or need to move the appointment?
Do you cut children's hair?
07 — Request a time
Tell us what your hair needs
Send the form and we reply with two or three slots that fit the service, usually within a working day. Nothing is confirmed until you pick one — and if we think a different service suits you better, we will say so first.
- Requests are answered Tuesday to Saturday, in the order they arrive.
- New colour clients are offered a patch-test slot alongside the appointment.
- Naming a stylist is optional; leaving it open usually means an earlier time.
